Deep Cove and West Arm Beer Cans
Waikato Times, New Zealand around 1980 or 1981
Hamilton labourer Kevin George couldn’t believe his eyes when he opened
The Times this week.
He discovered the two beer cans a mate sent him from the South Island
could be worth $100 apiece.
Kevin’s cans are two of the most sought after by collectors in the
world - that’s according to a latest British publication called Collecting
Beer Cans.
Kevin is not a beer can buff - he hung on to cans because he liked
the colour of them.
"I'm glad I did. Just think how many cans I could trade them for now.
I haven’t touched beer a drop of the beer inside them which is just as
well. He advertised the cans for sale earlier this week and had a few inquiries
but no firm offers.
The cans were produced between 1963-73 for workers on the construction
of the Manapouri hydro project.
They contain the special Deep Cove and West Arm brews.
"I’ll bet a lot of the blokes on the site wished they had hung on to
their cans now," said Kevin.
